Today as we freely move around in our country without anyone questioning or imposing any kinds of restrictions on us we feel satisfied and contended. This satisfaction is due to the efforts taken by our freedom fighters to free our country from the British rule. Their sacrifices, and tortures have resulted in the freedom that we enjoy today in our motherland India.In Thanjavur district 1.Ruthirapathy Padayachi,2.RuthiraPathi Pillai and 3.Ruthirapathy in the same name participated in freedom fighter struggle and the third one AR RUTHRAPATHI belonging to Melur-Avalivanallur Village. AR RUTHRAPATHI is one of the involved persons in the list of Indian dedicated freedom fighters. He is a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He was born(year 1913) in Melur-Avalivanallur Valangaiman Taluk ,Thiruvarur District Tamilnadu India. At the age of 12 he started activities against British rule and at the age of 17 he actively participated in salt march at Vedaranyam. He was imprisoned often for fighting against British rule. He died at the age of 42 in 1955 after serious health problem for five years
